Our Technical Capabilities

Inland Geotechnical maintains a comprehensive suite of in‑house field, laboratory and analytical capabilities that support high‑quality geotechnical investigation, testing and interpretation across regional New South Wales and regional Victoria.

By controlling the full workflow from subsurface investigation through to laboratory testing and design analysis we deliver consistent, reliable data and clear engineering advice that stands up to technical review and construction scrutiny.

Field Investigation Capability

Our field capability is designed to support a wide range of geotechnical, pavement and infrastructure investigations in regional environments.

In‑house field services include:

  • Drilling rigs capable of drilling to depths of up to 15 metres

  • Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) for assessment of subsurface strength and density

  • Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing for pavement and near‑surface material evaluation

  • Groundwater monitoring bore installation

  • Experienced and qualified field staff with strong familiarity with infrastructure, road and building investigations

Maintaining in‑house drilling and in‑situ testing capability allows Inland Geotechnical to control data quality, respond quickly to site conditions and tailor investigations to project‑specific risks.

Laboratory Testing Capability

Inland Geotechnical operates a NATA‑accredited laboratory, providing confidence that testing is undertaken in accordance with recognised national and project‑specific standards.

Our laboratory capability includes:

  • Routine soil, aggregate and concrete testing

  • Automated CBR (California Bearing Ratio) testing

  • Triaxial testing, widely regarded as the gold standard for determining geotechnical strength and deformation parameters

The availability of advanced laboratory testing in‑house allows us to move beyond basic index testing and provide parameters suitable for detailed design, pavement assessment and performance‑based decision making.

 Geotechnical and Pavement Analysis

Our qualified staff can deliver key geotechnical analysis parameters to support engineering design. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Site classification and surface movement

  • Bearing capacity (allowable and ultimate end)

  • Retaining wall parameters (unit weight, friction angle, cohesion)

  • Foundation parameters (reactivity, undrained shear strength, cohesion, friction angle, modulus, settlement)

  • Pavement design for rigid and flexible pavement

  • Slope stability

  • Seismic hazard classification

  • Wind rating

  • Batter slope (temporary and permanent)

  • Groundwater

Our analytical capability is supported by industry‑standard software used by government agencies, councils and consulting engineers throughout Australia.

Key platforms include:

  • CIRCLY – pavement design and assessment in accordance with Austroads methodologies

  • CLISP – Automated materials analysis

  • Tablogs – borehole logging and geotechnical data management

  • Geotester – field and laboratory data capture and analysis

These tools allow Inland Geotechnical to deliver analyses aligned with Austroads, Transport for NSW and local council specifications, and to integrate field and laboratory results into clear, defensible reporting

Integrated, End‑to‑End Capability

By combining:

  • In‑house drilling and in‑situ testing

  • NATA‑accredited laboratory facilities

  • Advanced analytical and pavement design software

Inland Geotechnical provides an integrated service that reduces reliance on third parties, improves turnaround times and ensures consistency from investigation through to final reporting.

This integrated capability supports:

  • Infrastructure and road projects

  • Residential and commercial developments

  • Pavement evaluation and design

  • Risk‑based geotechnical advice tailored to regional conditions

Regional Expertise, Technical Confidence

With a strong regional base, Inland Geotechnical understands the soil profiles, geology and construction challenges common across inland NSW and Victoria. Our technical capability is matched with practical experience, allowing us to deliver solutions that are both technically robust and constructible.

At Inland Geotechnical, our capability is not just the equipment we operate, it is how we apply it to deliver clear, reliable and defensible outcomes for our clients.
